Cain and Abel - first RELIGIOUS war - TYPE OF CHRIST SACRIFICE

Being Right in God's eyes - they kill the holy one

ABEL AS A TYPE OR SHADOW OF JESUS
Hebrews 11:4
By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

Hebrews 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion,
  • to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come
  • to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
  • 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come
  • to God, the Judge of all,
  • to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
  • 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and
  • to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

Commandment to love - has always been there by god

1 John 3:11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
  • 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother.
    • And why did he murder him?
    • Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.
  • 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.
    • 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other.
  • Anyone who does not love remains in death.
    • 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer,
    • and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
  • 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
    • And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
    • 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
    • 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

First Religious war

Genesis 4 (ESV)
Cain and Abel

4 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she bore his brother Abel.
  • Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and
  • Cain a worker of the ground. 3 In the course of time
  • Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and   **(DEAD RELIGIOUS PRACTICE)**
  • Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And  **(HIS WERE RIGHTEOUS)**
    • the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering,
    • 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard.
  • So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. **(HE WANTS TO PLEASE GOD - HIS WAY)**
    • 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?
  • THE LORD GIVES STATUTES (law, regulations, instructions, standards, rules, decrees)
    • 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted?
    • And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door.
      • Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”
  • 8 Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field,
    • Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
    • 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
    • He said, “I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?”
    • 10 And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”
    • 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”
    • 15 Then the Lord said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him.
    • 16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

Way to test yourself

1 John 3:19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:
  • 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
  • 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
    • 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

wow to them

Jude 1:3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.
  • 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a licentiousness (filthy, a license for immorality) and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
    • 5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
  • 8 In the very same way, these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion (reject authority) and speak evil of (His) glorious ones, glory (angels).
    • 9 But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
    • 10 Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.
    • 11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain;
    • they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error;
    • they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
    • 12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm--
    • shepherds who feed only themselves.
    • They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind;
    • autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead.
    • 13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame;
    • wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.
