Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

THE FREEDOM OF SALVATION

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17). This is a lovely verse, but from what are we being freed? There is freedom in the Lord, from every type of sin, only obtained through faith in Jesus (Acts 13:38-39). So Jesus set you free from sin: slavery to sin (Romans 6:16). The gospel teaches us that we are saved by faith; we are saved by God's grace through faith; it's not of our works (Ephesians 2:8-9).  No amount of doing good will save you.

And because you belong to Him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. (Romans 8:2).

The absolute power is in the gospel, in God's spoken word. (Romans 1:16). "The scripture has imprisoned everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus, might be given to those who believe." (Galatians 3:22).  God is sovereign and in control, not us, nor the enemy. It's God who made all sins equal. The Strong's Hebrew 7683 word for sin is shagag, which means 'to go astray,' or 'commit error.' Man knew God but did not glorify Him, so God gave them over to the desires of their own hearts, which lacked reverence towards God; He counted all these actions as equal and called it sin (1 John 1:7, 2:2; Romans 1:21-25; James 4:17) .  It was gathered, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:36).

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1).

So if God imprisoned every act of disobedience, it makes sense that He can set you free from all of them. But what is the work of the devil? When He (Jesus) ascended on high, he broke free their chains and every yoke, and took many captives (Psalm 68:18; Ephesians 4:8: Isaiah 58:6); setting them free. Jesus came to destroy the work of the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning and leading us astray. (1 John 3:8). We were led astray from sincere and pure devotion to the Lord. (2 Corinthians 11:3) by the devil to pursue the lusts of our own flesh (Galatians 5:16, 24). Our old sin nature wants to rule over us (Romans 8:12-13). The desires of our flesh are against the Spirit (Ephesians 5:17-21). The enemy doesn't want you to be free. He wants to get you back in captivity; which is the pursuit of your own way which leads to death (Proverbs 14:12). The enemy and our sinful hearts wants us to act as if we are god, the ruler of your own destiny. This crooked path will make us desire our own pleasures. The enemy wants to darken your mind towards the light of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4) because Jesus will give you light, knowledge to set you free. Jesus is the light of the world; a lamp upon your feet to light your path (Psalm 119:105) which leads to eternal life.  Resist the enemy, standing firm in the faith. (1 Peter 5:9a). Submit your lives to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7). We are to guard ourselves against the enemy trying to lead us back into the desires of our flesh, which is ever so easy for the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41). This is the spiritual battle we fight every since day of our lives.

Should we fear the devil and his demons? What about generational curses?

We ourselves have been given the power to be set free from the devil and all curses upon our lives. It's a measure of our faith for we need only to submit to God and resist the devil and he will flee. This is the very power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16): to set men free from being slaves of the enemy in the fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15).  When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He spoke the truth of God's promises to resist the enemy. This is why it's important to store up treasure in your heart, as we see David saying, "I have stored up Your words that I might not sin against You." (Psalms 119:11). Do you have gospel truths stored in your heart? If not, then how can you fight the battle without your only weapon?

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17).

So we have seen the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). It's the sword the Lord used against the enemies attacks. It's the same weapon of warfare that we are to use (Hebrews 4:12). Although we are weak, we are given power and strength by God (2 Timothy 1:7; Ephesians 3:16; Philippians 4:13; (1 Corinthians 4:20); Colossians 1;11). The 'helmet of salvation' is the gift of salvation which is our hope (1 Thessalonians 5:8; Romans 8:24-25; Ephesians 6:17), because we are to guard this truth in our minds.

You, my brothers were called to be free. But don't use your freedom to indulge the flesh, but, rather serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:13).

This awesome freedom isn't given so we can do whatever we want because the record has been wiped clean. It is to free our minds of the worries of this world so we are free to love and help others. We are to love the Lord our God first and then love our neighbor as we love ourselves (Mark 12:28-34; Matthew 22:36-40). Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples. (John 15:35). How will it know? Because we will be unlike everyone else.

The world is lost and being led astray from loving God and loving one another. People are pursing the love of themselves, not others. They are seeking what is best for themselves; what will make them happy. That's what the culture teaches us. So if you are out there without a worry in the world and looking to help others, then you're definitely going to be different. Do we have worries? Yes, but not really, because we've given them to the Lord. He will fight our battles because they're His battles anyways, you only need to be still (Exodus 14:14). The hope and joy you have will shine through you.  This is the hope and glory of the Lord which you were made to possess.

In Him and through faith in Him, we can approach God with freedom and confidence. (Ephesians 3:12).

You can confidently approach God on His Throne in heaven through faith. This is the most magnificent truth. Never has anyone been able to approach God without dying. We now have that ability through the cleansing of the blood of Jesus.  The gospel is clear in saying you are free. These words were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so if it states you're free, then you're free. No longer a slave to sin, or the devil.  Set your mind to the things above. Seek the kingdom. Give your worries to the Lord and let Him protect you. Let Him lead you. He will lead you back to the straight path, from where you've gone astray.
