Prophet(s): Samuel
Scriptures: (1 Samuel 9:1-27; 10:1-26; 11:1-15; 12:1-24; 13:1-23; 14:1-52; 15:1-35; 16:14-23; 17:29-38, 55-58; 18:1-30; 19:1-23; 22:6-23; 23:10-29; 24:1-22; 26:1-25; 27:1; 28:1-25; 31:1-13); (2 Samuel 1:27); (1 Chronicles 9:35-44); (1 Chronicles 10:1-14).
Details: Israel was lead by prophets and priests, but the sons of Eli, Phinehas has Hophni, did evil in the eye's of God but Samuel was good. The people requested a king to govern them to be like the other countries. God tried to warn them against this, but they insisted so the Lord had Samuel anoint Saul with the oil of gladness. Saul didn't wait upon the Lord; he offered his own sacrifice instead of waiting for Samuel to arrive; God stripped the kingdom from him when he didn't obey the Lord's commands, however he got to rule for years afterwards; after battling the Amalokites, he allowed his men to took spoils where dedicated to destruction and he didn't kill King Agag; everything was to be killed; his years were troubled as the Lord gave him an evil spirit to provoke him; also out of jealousy, he spent many years trying to kill David, his faithful servant, as he knew the Lord was with him and the kingdom was going to be given to him; he was fearful of the Philistines coming attack so he summoned Samuel from the dead who told him that he would be given into their hands and he and his sons would be killed; his three sons (Jonatha, Abinadab, and Malchi-shua) were skilled by the Philistines, and he was badly wounded so he fell on his own sword and died.

DETAILS: God promised the deliverer would come from his throne; he was a man after God's own heart for he loved the other, seeking to do His will and repenting of evil; anointed with oil as a young boy instead of his older brothers (1 Samuel 16:1-13), but he didn't begin to rule for some years after; played the lyre for Saul to calm him when the evil spirit provoked him, Saul loved David, and he entered his service and became his cup-bearer (1 Samuel 16:14-23); soon afterwards David's dad sends him to check on brothers (Eliab, Adinadab, Shammah) who were at war, he goes and defeated Goliath for defying the living God in his youth (1 Samuel 17:1-58); as soon as David was finished speaking with Saul, his son Jonathan's soul loved David's soul as he loved himself (1 Samuel 18:1-2). Saul took him that day and didn't let him return to his father anymore (1 Samuel 18:3) so he could fully serve Saul. (**). David was victorious in all Saul has him do, so he is appointed head of Saul's army; the woman sing of his victory and then Saul becomes jealous; David and Saul's son, Jonathan had become very close friends, and he betrays his father by protecting David from Saul's attempt to kill him; he killed 200 Philistines to get Saul's daughter, Micah, in marriage, she really loved David and she protected him from Saul's attempt to him on another occasion; he was appointed as head of Saul's arm and was a valiant warrior; defeated surrounding nations; has to hid in caves and other nations from Saul, he spares Saul's life twice when he had the opportunity to kill him; he hides in Philistine territory and kills all their enemy nations for them, the King Achish loves David for this, but he wouldn't let him fight against Israel with them, David and his men killed the Amalakites who attacked Philistine territory while they were away at war and he took spoils (God didn't get angry with this, like he did Saul); he becomes king of Judah upon Saul's death, but doesn't get Israel until Saul's son is killed two years later; he then defeats the Philistines; he sinned against God by laying with Bathsheba and murdering her husband Uriah the Hittite, so the sword would be upon his household; he wanted to build the temple of the Lord but wasn't permitted as he was a man of war, so instead he collected materials for his son who would build it; experienced the rebellion of 2 sons, at different points, to overtake the throne but they both failed; Bathsheba intervened on behalf of her Solomon during one uprising, and the rebellion was put down and he became king; then David fell asleep naturally in his old age and buried in city of David.
David won many victories with the surrounding territories, including the defeat of the Edomites, killing 18,000 of them in the Valley of Salt. It was by the hand of Abishai, the son of Zeruiah. (1 Chronicles 18:12). Abishai is Joab's brother (1 Chronicles 19:11).
(*) Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army took Saul's son, Ish-bosheth and made him king over Gilead, Ashurites, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin and all Israel when he was 40 years old. He reigned 2 years. But Judah stayed with David. (2 Samuel 2:8-11). They fought against David the entire time, finally Abner wanted to partner with David but Joab murders him and David mourns (2 Samuel 3:1-39), the sons of Rimmon then killed Ish-bosheth while he slept in his palace (2 Samuel 4:1-12), and David anointed king of Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-16). David defeats the Philistines (2 Samuel 5:17-25).

- Chemosh the god of Moab,
- Moloch the god of Ammonites,
- and they have not walked in my ways, doing what was right in my sight and keeping my statues and my rules, as David his father did, also he could reign over all his soul desires and be king of Israel, and if listen to all I command and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyes by keeping my statutes and my commands, as David did, I will be with you and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you, and I will afflict the offspring of David because of this but not forever. So Solomon sought to kill him, but he arose and fled into Egypt to Shiskak king of Egypt and remained until the death of Solomon.

Appointed king in Shechem and Jehoboam the son of Nebat, came back from Egypt and asked if he'd be as harsh as his father to the forced labor, he said he'd be harsher, the 10 tribes of Israel chose Jeroboam as their king, then there was war between them continuously; he only kept the tribe of Judah and Benjamin; capital city of Jerusalem, the city the Lord chose out of all of them; all the Levite priests came to his land because Jeroboam cast them out and they strengthen Judah making it secure for 3 yrs for they walked in the way of David for those yrs; he favored his wife Maacah the daughter of Absalom; he appointed Abijah as chief prince so he'd become king after him; when his rule was established and he was strong, he didn't set his heart to seek the Lord, he abandoned the law of the Lord and did more sins then his father, provoking God to jealous: he built high places and Asherim pillars with male cult prostitutes, committing all the sins of the nations that were driven out; in response Shemaiah prophesied God's abandonment of them into hands of Shishak, king of Egypt, they humbled themselves, so God withheld His wrath, but they would have to become servants to Shishak to realize they had it good; Shishak took temple and royal treasures; he fell asleep naturally.
Shemaiah, the man of God came to Rehoboam and told him not to go to war against Jeroboam as the divide was from the Lord, so all the assembled men of the house of Judah and Benjamin 180,000 went back home.

Amaziah - (Yahweh is MIghty)
Years of Reign: 29
In God's Eyes: Good, but not as David was
Prophet(s): Zechariah
Family: Son of Joash & Jehoaddin (mother) from Jerusalem
Began Reign at age: 25
King of Israel at beginning of his reign: in 2nd year of Jehoash of Israel
Scripture: (2 Kings 14:1-21); (2 Chronicles 25:1-28)
Details:
He was good in God's sight but as good as David, instead he followed Joash; he didn't remove pagan shrines; as soon as royal power was in his hands, he murdered the his servants, who struck down his father, but not their children as the Law of Moses prohibited children being killed for their father's sins; assembled the men of Judah and Benjamin and hired 100,000 mighty men of valor from Israel for 100 talents of silver. But a man of God come to him and said, do not let men of Israel go with you, for the Lord is against Israel, with all these Ephraimites. Go be strong in battle, for the Lord has the power to help or cast you down before your enemies. He asked about the money he gave Israel, and the man of God, said God can give much more. He then fired the army which came down from Ephraim told them to go home again. They returned home in fierce anger.
But Amaziah took courage and went out to battle in the Valley of Salt and struck down 10,000 men of Seir (Edomites). The men of Judah captured another 10,00 alive and took them and threw them down from the top of rock and they were dashed to pieces. The men who were told to return home, who were angry raised the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and struck down 3,000 people in them and too much spoil. When Amaziah returned from striking down the Edomites, he brought the gods of the men of Seir and set them up as his gods and worshiped the, making offering to them. Therefore, the Lord was angry with him and sent a prophet to say, why are you worshiping gods who didn't protect their own people? As the prophet was speaking, the king said to him, "Have we made you a royal counselor?" So he stopped, but did say, "I know the Lord has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel."
Amaziah challenged king Jehoash of Israel to battle. Jehoash responded by saying, "A thistle of Leanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for a wife.' and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trample down the thistle. You say, 'See, I have struck down Edom' and your heart has lifted you up in boastfulness. But now stay at home. Why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?'" Amaziah didn't listen, for it was God who was going to give him into the hands of his enemies, because they sought the gods of Edom. So Joash went to battle against them and defeated them, taking the temple and royal treasures along with hostages; he continued as king and lived another 15 years after Johoash died; there was a conspiracy against his life after he turned from God and he fled to Lachish and was murdered.

Ahaz - (Yahweh has held)
Years of Reign: 16
In God's Eyes: Evil
Prophet(s): Isaiah, Micah, Oded and Hosea
Family: Son of Jotham
Began Reign at age: 20
King of Israel at beginning of his reign:
Scripture: (2 Kings 16:1-20); (2 Chronicles 27:9; 28:1-27; Isaiah 7:1-17)
Details:
Initially Syria and Israel united and came against Judah, and they shook in fear as trees shake in the forest. And the Lord sent word via Isaiah at the aqueduct of the Upper Pool on the road to the wash Field to Ahaz to not be frighted not to lose heart and be calm. Isaiah told Ahaz that Rezin of Syria (Aram) and Pekah of Israel plotted his ruin and wanted to put Tabeel king over Judah. And the Lord prophesied that Rezin was the only head of Damascus and Pekah would be the last king of Israel and it would be shattered in 65 years. to test the Lord in any way to determine His strength but he refused. The LORD through Isaiah even prophesied the virgin birth and naming the child Emanuel and how he will know how to reject evil and do right. (Isaiah then records additional prophesying against Israel and many other nations.)
Ahaz did not follow the Lord. He followed kings of Israel; he burnt his son in fire as an offering, according to the detestable practices of the people in the land which were driven out by the Israelites; he made metal images of Baal and did Baal worship; he made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he did pagan worship on high places and under every green tree. Because he had forsaken the Lord by promoting wickedness and had been the most unfaithful, the LORD humbled him by giving him into the hand of Syria, Israel and other nations.
Instead of repenting, Ahaz the king of Judah, sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria for help against Syria but he was reluctant to help and troubled him instead, so he gave temple and palace treasures so Tiglath-pileser attacked Damascus (Syria) for him, and he took the people captive to Kir and he killed Rezin. Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser and he saw their altars so he sent instruction to Uriah the priest to built it near the temple of God. It was built before he even got back. He became even more unfaithful. He offered his sacrifices on that altar to the gods of Damascus since they defeated him. He thought if he made sacrifices to their gods, those gods would help him. So he gave instructions for the regular offering to be done on it for all the people. Additionally, he had the bronze altar in the courtyard of God's temple moved to the north side of this new temple for his personal use so he could 'seek guidance' by doing his offerings on it. He further dishonored the Lord by desecrating His holy temple by cutting the furnishings into pieces and removing things and then shut the doors to the temple of God. He set up other pagan temples and built high places in every town in Judah to burn sacrifices to other gods. This aroused the anger of the LORD and brought the downfall of Israel.
Lord allowed Aram to defeat him and exile a lot of people to Damascus; Israel's army also defeated him but Oded warns of too harsh of treatment; Judah attacked on all sides during his reign as the Lord humbled the people for Ahaz was utterly unfaithful; Ahaz closing God's temple and smashed things and opened many pagan shrines; he continued to worship Damascus gods because he thought they helped Aram so they'd help him instead it lead him to ruin.

Because he had forsaken the Lord by promoting wickedness and had been the most unfaithful, the LORD humbled him by giving him into the hand of Syria, Israel and other nations.
- So Rezin, the king of Syria (Aram) defeated Ahaz and took many captives to Damascus. Rezin the king of Syria recovered Elath for Syria and drove the men of Judah from Elath, and the Edomites came to Elath, where they dwell to this day.
- And Pekah the son of Remaliah, the king of Israel attacked with great force: killing 120,000 men of valor from Judah in a single day; while Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim killing three people: Maaseiah the son of king Ahaz, Azrikam the commander of the palace, and Elkanah the man next in authority to the king; and they took 200,000 captives and spoils to Samaria, the capital of Israel. But the LORD spoke through the prophet Oded, saying they were too extreme for they had sins of their own and they were to release the captives and plunder.
- Edomites attacked and took captives.
- Philistines raided the foothills and in the Negev of Judah, capturing Beth Shemesh, Aijalon and Gederoth, Soko, Timnah, Gimzo and the surrounding villages.
